LEWIS CENTER, Ohio – June 28, 2012 – Associa Cares, the philanthropic arm of Associa, recently donated $2,500 to two Ohio families on behalf of Real Property Management, Inc.
James Curran’s home in the Village at Tremont community was recently destroyed when lightning struck his house on May 4. The strike created a 15-foot hole in the roof and, as a fire spread as a result of the lightning, hit a gas line and exploded. Insurance is covering the rebuild of Curran’s home, and the money donated from Associa Cares will be used for day-to-day expenses.
Diane Kiger’s home in the Village at Walker Wood community was also partially destroyed from a May storm that resulted in a lightning strike to her home. A neighbor who noticed the spreading fire called the fire department immediately. By the neighbor’s swift actions, the fire was isolated to one unit out of four, and minimal smoke damage. The damage is such that she is displaced and living with relatives until her unit may be repaired.
“Associa Cares was created to help families affected by tragedy, man-made or natural. While we were saddened to learn about these tragic incidents, we are glad we had the resources available to help James and Diane,” said Real Property President and CEO Sandi Crnko.
Associa Cares relies on volunteers from national and local committees to help identify people in both Associa and non-Associa managed communities affected by tragedies. Real Property first notified Associa about the families.
