Funds to Assist with Rebuilding Process
CARMEL, Ind. – February 3, 2011 – Community Association Services of Indiana, an Associa company, with the help of Associa Cares, recently donated funds to local families who recently lost their homes in separate disasters.
- Anthony and Myra Shelton lost their home when two separate fires destroyed their condo on New Year’s Day. The family was having dinner when a fire began upstairs. Firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire and after it was believed to be under control they left the residence. The fire re-ignited soon after causing further damage to the property.
- Stella Jones was rescued from a fire in her home by her son William in late December. The fire broke out at about 8:30 a.m. in the morning and Mr. Jones was awakened by his mother screaming for help. When he entered the room, he saw flames coming from an electrical socket near his mother’s bed, and it caught the bed on fire. The son wheeled his mom out of the home to safety before trying unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire. Mrs. Jones had lived in the home for more than 45 years.
- Carrie White’s apartment was lost when water from a fire above her unit caused her ceiling to collapse. Ms. White lost almost all of her possessions and the home suffered severe water and smoke damage.
With the help of Associa Cares, all three families will begin recovering their belongings faster than originally anticipated.
“We are pleased that Associa Cares was able to arrange for this aid and assistance,” said Assistant Community Manager and Associa Cares representative Valerie Atwell. “These families were truly deserving of the help, and we are thankful for our partnership with the American Red Cross to help us identify families in need.”
The partnership helps refer fire clients to CASI for assistance through its Associa Cares program. As a result of their combined efforts, CASI’s Associa Cares program has assisted nearly 25 Indianapolis area families in recent months.
